Faith Integration Jaelynne (Loft) Allen Azusa Pacific University Faith Integration According to William Hasker, ââ¬Å"[Faith] integration is concerned with integral relationships between faith and knowledge, the relationships which inherently exist between the content of the faith and the subject-matter of this or that discipline; such connections do not have to be invented or manufactured. But they do need to be ascertained and developed; unless this is done faith and knowledge may appear to be, and for practical purposes may be in fact, alien and unrelated to each other. Finally, faith-learning integration is especially concerned with the disciplines into which our knowledge is organized; the same concerns of subject-matter and methodology which lead to the distinction of disciplines also dictate that, initially at least, faith-learning integration is best pursued at the level of particular academic disciplines.â⬠Communicating with patients and understanding patient concerns is the foundation of what nurses do and is crucial in providing quality care. If we are unable to communicate with our patients, we are unable to fully engage in the care for those we encounter. As children of God, we are called to care for all of Godââ¬â¢s children. Augustines Confessions Paper - 1340 Words
When one reads the word confessions, one would not necessarily associate it with the word narrative. Confessions seem to be more of something stated directly without any story-like element. They are also a more personal thing- one does not simply put them in a story form unless purposely intending to do so, because usually it is something that expresses guilt for something personal or is between the author and their conscience (or perhaps to themselves). However, there can always be an exception, like Augustines Confessions. It is written as a form of a narrative, even though the original the main audience for whom it was written is God, yet it is also intended to be read by anyone, almost as a didactic piece that sets an exampleâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦So one intention is that the narrative be for anyone to read and go off of as an example or guide to their own morality. This is also logical because if he were writing his confessions solely for God, he would have no need to pu blish it or share it with anyone else, and saying that it is not for God only further supports this intention. However, Augustine has another agenda- his confessions are also meant to show his praise and love for God. He says this in the fifth book with: Accept the sacrifice of my confessions by the agency of my tongue, which Thou has formed and quickened, that it may confess to Thy name... But let my soul praise Thee, that it may love Thee; and let it confess Thine own mercies to Thee, that it may praise Thee. This is a clear declaration of his praise to God, and almost another underlying message of the text to the audience. So as he is writing about his life, he is trying also to set an example to the audience about how his choices were not always the best and use this as a guide to their own lives. And finally through his story, use his conversion and change as a way to praise God to show that even someone who strayed off the path was able to redeem themselves and how merciful and good God is to accept someone even as sinful as he was. Growing Up Around, During, and After World War Ii Free Essays
During and After World War II Around and during World War II there were many challenges and many exciting and terrifying events occur. Many things happen such as the Great Depression, Pearl Harbor, C)-day, and Hiroshima. Billie Jean Ramsey-styles grew up during this time. Her mother was a homemaker; her father was a brick mason. She lived in a five-room house that had electricity but did not have an indoor tearoom. She did household chores like washing laundry and, dishes, making beds, carrying in firewood and cleaning house (Styles). According too U. S. History teacher ââ¬Å"The Great Depression was the period of time in which the stock market crashed, banks failed, and the U. S. Had an economic falloutâ⬠(Mueller). It was a point in time when people did not have much of anything and they had to work hard to afford what they did have. Many people could not afford toys for their children. The children from this time still found things to do such as: play kick the can, hide and eek and, they also cut out people from magazines and used them as paper dolls. The depression also affected school budgets. Schools could not afford sports uniforms or other sports equipment. Me and my cheerleaders team made our uniforms in Home CE. Many people lost their Jobs and had to work at Civilian Conservation Corps Camps. ââ¬Å"The camps were similar to the military. People were in small groups and wore uniforms. They had to work and follow all rules, but in return they got three square meals a day and a Job. The ICC camp in Brownsville worked on the Blue Ridge Parkwayââ¬â¢ (Styles). According to an article called Invasion of Poland, Fall 1939 ââ¬Å"The beginning of the war, on September 1st 1939 Poland was invaded by Germany. Germany defeated the Polish army within weeks and Britain and France declare war on Germany because Germany invaded Poland. Russia invaded eastern Poland on September 17thâ⬠Billie Jean remembers this time Clearly ââ¬Å"me and many other people were worried that Germany and Russia would invade the United States. I may have been worried but she felt safe in the mountains of North Carolinaâ⬠(Styles). The U. S. Gets involved in the war. ââ¬Å"On December 7th 1941 Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japaneseâ⬠(Mueller). ââ¬Å"The Japanese had planned to destroy the Pacific Fleet but failed because, all of the aircraft carriers were away on missions or trainingâ⬠(Pearl). ââ¬Å"Billie remembers what she was doing when she heard the news about Pearl Harbor. She was working a Jigsaw puzzle while her father was on the couch listening to the radio- this was before the television. All of a sudden they heard We interrupt this program for a special announcement. Japan has bombed Pearl Harborââ¬â¢. Billie and her family were sad for the families whose loved ones were injured or killed in the attack. They were also upset that the U. S. Had been attacked. They continued to listen to the radio. Eventually, they heard ââ¬Å"The U. S. Is now at war. â⬠Since the U. S. Entered the war the government started to ration sugar and gasâ⬠(Billie). ââ¬Å"The rationing of sugar and gas caused a rise in the black marker (Mueller). The Invasion to Normandy, ââ¬Å"D-day, was on June 6 The plan was then to land and invade five beaches off the coast of Franceâ⬠(Mueller). Billie remembers what happened when the invasion was successful ââ¬Å"The invasion was broadcast on the radio. I remember what happened when the invasion was successful. Everybody went to the town square to celebrate. The church bells were ringing, the fire whistle was going off and people were having fun. During this time period many stores shut down on Wednesday afternoons and people would get together and make victory gardensâ⬠. When asked what victory gardens were she replied Victory gardens were kitchen gardens planted during wartime to relieve food shortagesâ⬠(Styles). ââ¬Å"August 6th 1945 an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. This signaled the end of the warâ⬠(Mueller) Billie and her family were glad the war was over but sorrowful that so many people had to die to end it. They were also cared because such a destructive bomb had been developed (Styles). ââ¬Å"After World War II everyone was rejoicing and relieved that the war was over. People were happy that the soldiers were returning home. Sugar and gas rations stopped; you could buy more at the grocery stores. After the war things died down and returned to normalâ⬠(Styles). Growing up around, during, and after World War II was an interesting time. There were many challenges and many exciting events, such as The Great Depression, D-day, Pearl Harbor, and Hiroshima. Goals in Obtaining Personal Responsibility free essay sample
The three components that I think are required to accomplish this are to establish the level of personal responsibility I require I will need to monitor my success, develop my own study habits by setting reasonable standards, and, finally, having a positive attitude about it. A way to establish personal responsibility and be able to gauge and monitor my success is in my college education. One of the top ways to monitor your education is by the grades you have earned, and I say earned instead of received is because you only get back what you put out on homework or projects. By making an effort to complete things methodically and timely, you will receive a desired grade. You should at the start of the semester set of goal for a specific grade and try to achieve that, it gives you a starting point. ââ¬Å"A goal is a target toward which you can direct your efforts. These three things will assist in gauging and monitoring my success with establishing personal responsibility. Another way that will help me in establishing my own source of personal responsibility is being allowed the freedom to attack my higher education in which I deem appropriate for myself. A side note, I have received much similar feedback from fellow students that see this as being a great benefit to us as students. Being allowed said freedom would first entail developing my own study habits with a system that works with my life style; seeing as life has its own complications unique to each person, I will have to develop a system that fits to mine. ââ¬Å"Knowing how you learn best is the first step in developing effective study habits. Every student approaches the task of learning differently. Every student has a unique and personal learning style or a preferred channel through which learning comes more easily. â⬠(Mayland, 2012) Another thing to piggy back on my own system would be setting my own personal level of reasonable standards. Each individual needs to establish a reasonable and tangible standard to reach, and by doing that it reduces stress and complacency. Lastly, I will need to accept the consequences if the standards are not met. If I do not meet the standards in which I have set, I will need to accept the consequences by trying to alter my system or my standards. To put it briefly, developing my own system, standards, and accepting consequences as they come will play a key factor in my development of personal responsibility. Lastly, a key aspect of developing personal responsibility is to attack this adventure with a positive attitude to ensure long term enjoyment and a satisfactory outcome. First off, to make appropriate connections in school to ensure long term enjoyment and investment, ââ¬Å"Associate with ââ¬Å"positiveâ⬠people in your classes and on campus. I would suggest you partner up in study groups and even look to either socialize or join resume building activities clubs. High achievers, as do poor students with poor attitudes, rub off on anyone associating with either group. â⬠(F. S. U 2012) Secondly, making sure I attend classes no matter what complications arrive. By setting this as priority will ensure I have met my own standards that I have set. Also, having a good outlook on what I am doing will certify that I take enjoyment in what I am doing which will intern make me more productive. Finally, be active in the process. By staying active in everything aspect of my education and everything it entails will solidify that I get everything I can out of it. Something that a classmate shared with me was that throughout our education school work and rojects have also been a single person project so to be in a setting where we are forced to work with others right off the bat it prepares us for our lifetime of having to work with people in our careers. To wrap up, attend class, stay positive and be active in all that I can. In conclusion, to establish the level of personal responsibility I require I will need to monitor my success, develop my own study habits by setti ng reasonable standards, and finally, having a positive attitude about it. I believe this system will kick start me in the right direction.
