Comparing Homers Odyssey and Everyday Life Essay -- Comparison Compar

The Odyssey is filled with emotion and adventure. Homer’s ability to show and give the reader a visual of each and every scene gives the story its unbelievable significance. To all the people who read his work there is something to be captured within every sentence, each one different in its own, unique way. Through tales of courage and defeat, friendship and love this book tells of all the values within the life of a single, solitary man, and his journey to attain what is true and dear to him. And this journey is known to all of us as The Odyssey. The Odyssey is a test of human devotion and trust through the gods, the mortals, and the obstacles through which they venture. No matter where they go or what they do, humans are tested for certain characteristics everyday of their lives, whether they realize it or not; and The Odyssey is just one of those many miraculous tests.   Ã‚  Ã‚   The gods inflict a numerous amount of pain upon Odysseus for these tests of devotion and trust. Athene, the daughter of Zeus, happens to be a goddess who does this to Odysseus quite frequently. She aids Odysseus on his journey toward his destiny; therefore she must impose this pain upon him in order to make him strong in mind and in heart. As his aid "†¦Athene allowed the haughty suitors not altogether yet to cease from biting scorn. She wished more pain to pierce the heart of Laà «rtes’ son, Odysseus"(180) so that he may conquer all that he must in order to obtain his destiny and all that belongs to him. Without this pain and suffering that Odysseus goes through he may not have reached the pinnacle of his journey toward his destined life.   Ã‚  Ã‚   The gods act as guides for Odysseus so that he may successfully pass these tests. As his aid, Athene becom... ...happens, it all happens for the best. That everything that is done is a given test that you must achieve in order to reach your destiny. The Odyssey is a test of human devotion and trust through the gods, the mortals, and the obstacles through which they venture, which is shown throughout the entire story and in our everyday lives. Through this story, one can see that all of this is true, whether you believe it or not. These tests can be shown through an epic simile by Homer saying, "As a man hides a brand in a dark bed of ashes, at some outlying farm where neighbors are not near, hoarding a seed of fire to save his seeking elsewhere, even so did Odysseus hide himself in leaves"(54). This shows the symbolism that the ocean is Odysseus’ tests and he hides under the leaves in order to hide from the tests. But in the end, the tests help him and make everything well.

For My Research paper, I would like to talk about Access to Education in world countries. This subject is important to me because I want to become a teacher someday.For most Americans, we usually have the typical ordinary lives, we go to school, get a job and work. Now-a-days most Americans, don't go to school but imagine not being able to go to school your whole life and just working from the age of 7. Now that's something to think about, for many world countries, it`s not easy to get access to education like it is for the people in America. For third world countries they don't get educated period, and we American are forced to go to school by the age of 16, we take it for granted. Could you imagine not going to school and getting an education? How would you feel if you didn't have supplies for class or a classroom to go to? These are just some questions to think about. Education is one of the most difficult things to get in third world countries because of lack of funding, un-trained teachers and also no classroom. Lee vs Jackson - 902 Words

In the eastern front of U.S. Civil War there were two men who stood above the rest. Robert E. Lee was the commanding general of the Army of Northern Virginia. Thomas J. Stonewall Jackson commanded the Army of the Shenandoah. The military genius of these two men was far beyond that of any Union or Confederate officer in the east. History tells us that Robert E. Lee was one of the greatest commanding officers in history. History only tells us that Jackson was brave and stood like a stonewall at the First Battle of Manassas Junction, but was Jackson as good a commander as Lee? While they had their similarities these two men were very different in the ways they commanded their armies, and the ways they saw could end the war in victory†¦show more content†¦Several times during the course of the war, Jackson presented this plan to Lee and Davis, but each time the letter came back saying he was to defend Richmond. Lees plan was once again one for glory, seeming to know that m en would die, he chose to thrust himself into the spotlight and attack the Union on their own soil. Jacksons plan was one of strategy, he wanted to force the opponents hand and make them give in. Comparing these two men, we find that their differences strongly outweigh their similarities. Lee was destined for glory, seeming to only want glory and honor that comes in meeting your enemy face to face. Lee would send troops into battle at the strongest point. Lee was not a bad commander, he had many great victories and was very bold and daring, but he was not the great commander the history books make him. Jackson was a peaceful man, and he would often choose a battle plan that involved little to no fighting.
